WorkshopRepair it while it is still repairable
A Vision Windscreens repairs and replaces windscreens for cars, trucks and machinery from our workshop in Kunda Park. Our glaziers bring more than 40 years in the trade, and our mobile team comes to you across the Sunshine Coast. We look at the damage first and tell you whether it can be repaired or needs a new screen before any work starts, and every quote is free.
This is the starting point for windscreen repairs anywhere on the Sunshine Coast. It covers the decision most drivers are really trying to make (fix the damage or replace the glass), what the repair involves, and how a damaged screen is judged at a Queensland safety inspection. From here you can jump to the page for your suburb, or go straight to chip repairs, replacement, truck glass or machinery glass.
What to know first
A windscreen is not just a window. On a modern car it is laminated safety glass: a layer of plastic bonded between two curved sheets of glass. A chip that breaks the outer layer lets dirt and moisture in, and heat, cold and road vibration can turn it into a crack that runs. Caught early, most of that damage can be repaired in place with resin cured under UV light, which stabilises the glass and stops it spreading. Left alone, the same chip often ends in a full replacement.
There is also a legal side. Queensland's Light Vehicle Inspection Manual treats the part of the windscreen swept by the wipers as the primary vision area. A bull's-eye or star fracture more than 16mm across, or a crack more than 150mm long, in the driver's half of that area is a reason for rejection if it goes through more than one layer of glass or gets in the driver's way. A crack on the inside surface of the windscreen fails wherever it is. Repairs must be done to the relevant Australian Standards and must not leave optical defects that distort the driver's view.
That is why we assess before we quote. Size, depth, contamination and distance from the edge all decide whether a repair is the right answer, and we would rather tell you a screen needs replacing than sell you a repair that will not hold.
Common questions we solve
I don't know whether my windscreen can be repaired or needs replacing.
Windscreen damage varies in size, depth, contamination and position, and chips near the edge of the glass behave very differently from chips in the middle.
Guess wrong one way and you pay for glass you did not need; guess wrong the other way and you drive on a screen that is still weakened.
We inspect the damage first. A repair usually suits a chip smaller than a dollar coin, with no long cracks running from it, away from the edge of the windscreen and outside the driver's main view. If it falls outside those limits we explain the replacement options and cost before any work begins.
It was only a small chip, and now it has turned into a crack.
Dirt and moisture work into an open chip, and changes in temperature and the bumps of normal driving put stress on the damaged glass until it spreads.
Once a chip has run into a long crack, the chance to repair it has usually gone and replacement is the only safe option.
Book as soon as you notice the damage. Our mobile team comes to your home or workplace, and many repairs take 30 to 45 minutes from setup to finish.
I'm worried the damage will fail a safety certificate inspection.
Queensland's inspection manual sets limits for damage in the driver's half of the wiper-swept area: bull's-eyes or star fractures over 16mm, or cracks over 150mm, fail if they go through more than one layer of glass or interfere with the driver's vision.
A screen that fails holds up the inspection until the glass is dealt with properly, and a poor repair can fail too if it leaves distortion in the driver's view.
We tell you honestly whether a repair in your line of sight could leave a visible mark, and we recommend replacement where that is the safer choice. Replacement glass is always brand new and meets the Australian Design Rules.
My truck or machine is off the job until the glass is fixed.
Trucks, farm and earthmoving machinery work in dust, gravel and debris, and their glass takes hits that a family car rarely sees.
Every day a work vehicle sits idle costs money, and cracked glass on machinery is a safety problem for the operator.
We repair and replace glass on cars, trucks and machinery, including agricultural machinery, and our mobile service brings the same equipment and standard as the workshop to your site.
I'm not sure how my insurance handles windscreen damage.
Many policies cover windscreen repair, but the paperwork and the choice between repair and replacement can be confusing.
Drivers put off a quick repair while they work out the claim, and the chip keeps spreading in the meantime.
We give you a clear quote before any work and can provide the documentation your insurer needs where it applies, so you can make the call quickly.

Frequently asked questions
Do you come to me, or do I need to bring the car in?
Either. Our mobile team repairs windscreens at homes and workplaces across the Sunshine Coast, or you can bring the vehicle to our Kunda Park workshop, where we offer workshop pricing.
Can all windscreen damage be repaired?
No. Small chips and short cracks away from the edge of the windscreen are usually repairable. Damage that is large, deep, contaminated, near the edge or in the driver's main line of sight often is not, and we will recommend a replacement instead.
How long does a windscreen repair take?
Many repairs take 30 to 45 minutes from setup to completion, and most are finished within an hour. You can usually drive shortly after the repair is done.
Will a repaired windscreen pass a Queensland safety certificate?
A sound repair outside the driver's view is generally not a problem. The inspection manual rejects repairs that leave significant optical defects in the driver's view or reduce the effectiveness of the wipers, so where damage sits in your line of sight we may recommend replacement.
Do you repair windscreens on trucks and machinery?
Yes. We regularly repair and replace glass on trucks, agricultural machinery and other equipment, as well as cars.
Do you use second-hand glass for replacements?
No. We only fit brand-new windscreens that meet the Australian Design Rules. Second-hand glass can carry hidden chips, stress fractures or edge damage that weaken it.
What are your hours?
The Kunda Park workshop is open Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm. Saturdays are by appointment, and we are closed on Sundays.
